Senior Assistant City Attorney Bart Miesfeld has been named Interim City Attorney for the City of Chula Vista. Miesfeld, who specializes in litigation, has been an attorney with the city since 1998. He is taking over the position left vacant when former City Attorney Ann Moore retired June 5. City Council members made the appointment in closed session Thursday night.

 

“Bart has represented the City well in litigation, “said Mayor Cheryl Cox. “And we are confident he will continue to represent and advise the city council in all matters of law.”

 

Before joining the city, Miesfeld was an attorney in private practice with the law firm of Butz, Lucas, Dunne and Enright. In 1986, he earned his law degree from the California Western School of Law where he graduated Magna Cum Laude. Miesfeld completed a post- graduate Program of Instruction at Harvard Law School in 1998 with an emphasis in Torts and Civil Procedure. He is a past delegate to the American Bar Association and has served as a judge pro tempore in the San Diego Superior Court.

Miesfeld’s undergraduate degree was in structural engineering. He graduated from San Diego State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in 1982.

 

His areas of expertise include: all areas of litigation and trial practice in both State and Federal Courts; municipal liability; police misconduct and civil rights; engineering/construction law; Government Tort Claims Act and liability; and employment and wrongful termination liability.

 

The 49-year old Miesfeld is married to Deputy District Attorney Corinne Miesfeld; the couple has three children.
