Deceased candidate hustles lead CV city attorney race

The late Simon Silva, who passed away from cancer unexpectedly in September, is leading opponent Dan Smith in the race for Chula Vista city attorney.

Silva leads Smith by 301 votes, a less than 1% margin in this race so far.

The Chula Vista City Clerk wrote in a statement that “since Mr. Silva could not be seated, the City Charter would require the City Council to declare the seat vacant and call a special election to fill the position in 2023.”
